About Me
This site focuses on my art expression in glass from the 1970s until recently. My remaining works are available directly from me.
About Me (long version)
From childhood, my mother, a talented artist, encouraged me in all my creative, artistic, and learning activities. I was blessed and really didn't know it!
As a young adult, a bout of illness led me to yoga as a personal healing strategy and I became a dedicated practicioner. This was in the 1960s. My dedication, with the permission of my teacher, Shivaram, led me, in 1969, to pioneer the first yoga classes in Mt. Shasta, California. In subsequent years, via classes, demos and explanations, I offered yoga in schools, health clubs, and recreation departments in various locations on the West Coast. Yoga is an art as well as a health and spiritual practice, and has been part of my daily life for six decades, but I always had room for more artistic expression, particularly to create something with my own hands.
During the next decade, a stained glass class led me to the joy of working with artglass. I created lamps and windows for many Northern California homes. Glass work was a growth journey for me. What stained glass taught me: I learned that ideas in glass were easy. Actually making the window took time, money and patience. I learned to be careful with material things - stuff breaks! I learned the clean up my messes - glass cuts! And I learned that even broken things can be turned into something of beauty!
I learned that just by being my very best self in regard to glasswork, I could jump into other endeavors with the same energy and focus and master them, too. My lampshades were featured for sale at the De Young Museum Gift Shop in 1981 during the Tiffany Exposition. Birds Stained Glass Pattern Book, my first book, published by Dover Publications, was followed by more than a dozen stained glass pattern books and coloring books, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Native American and many more. Continuing with my path of lifelong learning and teaching, I returned to college in 1987, completed a B.A. and master's degree in Anthropology, with a focus on Cultural Ecology, then earned teaching credentials in art, anthropology and elementary education. As a teacher, I taught in the elementary grades and also as a adjunct community college professor.
At the same time that I became a devotee of yoga, I began a lifelong interest in astrology. Taking classes, I learned to calculate charts for for family and friends by hand. Over time, I paid attention to the correlation of outward events to the daily positions of the planets. I did readings for family, friends and clients, helping them to make sense of events and interactions. People appreciate my astrologically-informed guidance to have more clarity in making decisions, enhance relationships, and take advantage of timing for successful outcomes. My varied interests and experiences give me a a practical and uncommon perspective which people appreciate.
Patterns of the heavens, patterns in glass, patterns of bodily movement, flowing, serene, living in harmony in mind and body, a life of grace and balance. You can find out for yourself the tremendous power of your personal astrology blueprint by scheduling an astrological reading with me here.
